The Genealogy & Local History Room has well over 75 notebooks that contain maps, newspaper articles, essays, photos, and more about Winsted, Winchester, and other towns in Litchfield County.
The Notebook Collection for Winsted and Winchester is shelved alongside our other Winsted resources. The notebooks in this collection are frequently updated, and, although they do not circulate, copies may be made of the contents. The pages are all encased in protective plastic sleeves, so documents do not need to be removed from the sleeves for copying.
A great deal of time is devoted to maintaining this collection, so we ask researchers to return pages to the proper place in the notebooks and not to add, alter, or remove any documents. If a patron wishes to make a change to a notebook, we ask that they consult the library's Research Assistant.
Notebooks for Barkhamsted, Colebrook, New Hartford, Norfolk, Torrington and other towns are shelved with each town's history books. Some of these notebooks include headstone inscriptions and newspaper articles written by a town's historian.
The G&LH Room also has an extensive collection of CT town history books, CT town file folders, and books about the genealogy and history of other states.
See "Other Resources" for more information.
